The Streets Department oversees Nederland's various roads, working to maintain their integrity all year long. They are also responsible for installing culverts, signage, and right-of-way maintenance. In the winter, Streets is responsible for plowing the roads in town.
Our dedicated team consists of three Operators working staggered shifts over a 4-day work week. While we are a small team, we have at least one person working every day of the week.
While most of Nederland's roads are cared for by the Nederland Public Works Department, the major roads and highways belong to and are maintained by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and by the Boulder County Road Maintenance Department.
Culverts
Under Chapter 11 of the Nederland Municipal Code, culverts are required in all existing driveways, and new drives with access to public streets, roads or right-of-ways. Maintenance of all culverts on all public right-of-ways is handled by the Streets Department. Currently, they are responsible for roughly sixty culverts, many of which need to be maintained on a regular basis.
If you spot a culvert that is in need of repair, please contact us. We rely on residents to help bring damaged culverts to our attention, so we can repair them in a timely manner.
